My Chiropractic Story:
I've been involved in health care in some form or another most of my
life. My first experience with chiropractic was when I was enrolled in
college (Brigham Young University - pre-med). At that time I was also a paramedic instructor, volunteer
Emergency Medical Technician, and a member of the Air National Guard
medical services. Well, my wife developed a severe back ache and
wanted to go to a "chwiropraxter." Being the 'family medical
expert' I took the day off from work and school to accompany her and to protect
her from this unknown person. To make a long story short, she got well. In
fact, she was better than well. She was doing great! So I thought (arrogantly)
"with my medical background, I too could be a chiropractor in 2-3
weeks." Six years later (1990) I graduated from Logan College of
Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. Going to Logan College
was one of the best decisions of my life. I wanted a school that was on
the cutting edge; one that combined chiropractic philosophy with modern
science and research. When I was a pre-med major in college, I
became disillusioned with allopathic medicine. "Modern" medicine
was not focused on treating illness. It was more focused on treating
symptoms. "Have a headache, take an aspirin." I have yet to
discover anyone who has a deficiency in salicylic acid (aspirin) in their
body. Why not get to the root cause, eliminate the cause, and the headache
disappears. What a concept! THAT'S the kind of medicine I wanted to
practice. Since becoming a chiropractic physician, I've focused on
getting to the root causes of health (or lack of health.) I've become proficient
in acupuncture as it helps the energetics of the body; I've learned
nutrition and how it feeds the body; herbal remedies and homeopathic to
support the body; and I have added proficiencies in bio-impedance testing
to bring it all together. |
